Complete Solitude at Vail Ski Resort
Vail Ski Resort takes a lot of heat for long lift lines. Yes, sometimes it’s well justified, but that’s definitely not always the case and no matter what, at the end of the day, it’s always worth it.
Last week after watching another cloudless sunrise from the North Trail, I was lucky enough to load Gondola One a half an hour before public opening for a ‘photo shoot’ with marketing. It allowed me to experience a bunch of firsts at yesterday… mainly dealing with solitude: There was literally nobody, but the liftee at Chair 4. There was no train of skiers/boarders meandering down Sleepytime Road around Sun Up Bowl. Not a soul in sight in the expanse that is China Bowl. And the miserable cat track of Cloud 9 into Blue Sky was empty and smooth.
Vail is always impressive, but the other day definitely refreshed my sheer appreciation for the place.
