Maho Beach, Saint Martin
As I originally said, flying between Saint Kitts & Nevis and Denver is a real pain in the ass. After a quick puddle-jump from Saint Kitts (and literally a five minute flight from Nevis), we had six-and-a-half hours to kill in Saint Martin.
Maho beach is one of the few places in the world where aircraft can be viewed in their flight path just outside the end of the runway. The beach is unusually close to the threshold of a runway and is directly under the flight path, resulting in aircraft on their final approach flying over the beach at altitudes of less than 100 feet. There is also a danger of people standing on the beach being blown into the water because of the jet blast from aircraft taking off from runway 10.
I had heard about the “beach with the planes landing,” so we figured we might as well check it out. Pretty awesome for a layover.
