Rifle Falls State Park
Just like Rabbit Valley, I had been driving past the Rifle Falls State Park signs along I-70 for years, but never ventured off the highway to see them. The state park is comprised of a triple 70-foot waterfall on East Rifle Creek that’s surrounded by lush vegetation in an otherwise desert landscape. Being less than a 2 hour drive for me, I reserved a campsite for a random Tuesday night, drove out for some golden-hour shooting for sunset and sunrise, and back in time for work the next morning.
Worth a two hour drive? Yes, it’s definitely a cool spot. Worth another two hour drive? Meh… not too much to do.
