Valle Escondido Preserve & the Monteverde Inn
Monteverde, Costa Rica
I had booked the Monteverde Inn for a few nights, simply because it seemed to have a good view of the Gulf of Nicoya and the Pacific Ocean that my lazy-ass could easily photograph sunset from. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find the inn actually sat on an 11-hectare (27 acre) private reserve of its own, the Valle Escondido Preserve. With the Hidden Valley hiking trails, the preserve offers its guests the opportunity to trek a few kilometers through a lush tropical forest, which is a transition zone between the higher Monteverde Reserve and the lower forests of the area.
